Mission Statement

Maps have been used as the main tool to colonize the world, they can be the way that the world is decolonized as well. This website is dedicated to bringing together the groups of Indigenous Geographers who believe that geography should be done for and by the people of an area. In the post-colonial era geogrpahic ethics are dictated by the decolonization dialouge. We come together to continue that dialouge and encourage continued expansion of the field of Indigenous geography. As technology improves indigenous peoples around the world will increasingly be the makers of their own maps.
